Treatment
Pain from the ingrown toenail usually is gone very quickly after the ingrowing portion of the nail is removed. Most often a local anesthetic is used for your comfort.

Don’t Worry
We take great pride in being gentle and making the care of an ingrown toenail a nearly painless procedure for our patients. We numb up your skin with a cold spray before you are given a local anesthetic.
The most common statement we hear after taking care of an ingrown toenail is “That was easy – Why did I wait so long!” We usually only have to remove a very small portion of the nail. Your nail should look quite normal after you have healed.

If you, a friend, or a family member suffer from ingrown toenails, don’t wait to get treated. Treating them can be quick and easy. Call 907-561-2213 for an appointment.

What Is an Ingrown Toenail?

An ingrown toenail can be a painful and even a potentially serious problem. It is caused by the edge or tip of the toenail pushing and even cutting into the skin. The border of the nail can become very swollen, and reddened and often there is a lot of drainage, not to mention the pain. Sports, hiking, walking the dog, or just wearing shoes can cause enough pain to prevent further activity. Ingrown nails may also result in serious infections.

Often those suffering from ingrowing nails try putting cotton under the nail edge, lifting the edge out from the nail groove, or even cutting the edge out. This “bathroom surgery” is usually very painful and sometimes results in just worsening the problem. About 90% of the time any relief is just temporary and within a short time the nail will usually start ingrowing again.

Dr. Rindlisbacher can help and in most cases fix the problem permanently. This “fix” is a quick and usually fairly painless procedure where a small portion of nail edge is removed while the toe is numb. A weak acid is then applied to the base of the toenail to prevent the edge from coming back and causing another ingrown toenail.

If you are suffering from an ingrown toenail call Dr. Mark Rindlisbacher at Alaska Podiatry Group for carful, gentle and caring help. In most cases we can fit you in the same day if you are in pain. Please call 907-561-2213 for your appointment.
